Nothing captures our hearts like new love. This past weekend, Faith Fusion celebrated the Holy Marriage Blessing. To open the ceremony, Pastor Heather offered a special message to the Bride and Groom to remind them of the meaning of the commitment they were making.

“Marriage can be said to be a ceremony which allows you to open the door of a palace of happiness and enter in. Therefore, marriage is the biggest event for humankind. Love transcends time and space and is the greatest thing for humanity. The Marriage Blessing reveals and confirms the greatest love.” – Sun Myung Moon

God, our Heavenly Parent, created this vast universe with the desire to plant His seed or essence in human beings, who are set apart from the rest of the physical world because we have the privilege of being His much-loved sons and daughters.  Each new human life contains within itself the essence of either God’s masculinity or femininity; such is the value of every individual. We are born of God with the sole purpose to grow in love, in resemblance of our Heavenly Parent. You might say that God’s hopes and dreams are planted within each person’s heart. This is why we can’t help but seek love.

God is a harmonious being of masculinity and femininity and so something in us, as a man or woman, naturally yearns for our counterpart. We seek our other half, in order to become whole. We are impelled by an invisible, but nevertheless powerful, universal force that causes us to search to find our true love. Every teenager is awakened to this quest. It is the stuff of legends and epic love stories. For a couple in love, time stops still. They are engulfed in the moment and the new love they have found. Everything pales in comparison to the intensity of their love.

The Value of Marriage

We are not satisfied until we find this love because it is only in relationship with the other that our spirit settles; finally, as a couple, coming to reflect the fullness of the nature of God. This is why marriage is so important.

Our wedding day is a second birth of sorts. At our first birth we were born male or female. At our second birth, two become one and our couple stands in mirror image to God; a harmony of masculinity and femininity. This creates a different kind of resonance with God than we could experience as individuals.

The day of our marriage marks a new beginning. Just as a newborn baby represents a life of promise and potential, so too, a new couple represents all the future possibilities of what they can become and achieve together.

This future, that each couple creates together, is the gift they will return to God at their third birth when they leave their physical lives and enter the eternal spiritual realm. They naturally return gratitude to God by offering the fruits of their love and life together.

Our Community’s Blessing is to Share and Support

This is why we were so grateful to share the Marriage Blessing in New Hampshire this past week-end. Our job as the couple’s extended family of relatives and friends is to support their success as a couple and be protectors of the sacred covenant they have entered into has husband and wife with God at the center of their relationship.

Father Moon once shared that each couple should create a textbook of love for their descendants and for the whole world to read and become inspired by. All the lessons learned in order to create this textbook will be created through their experiences as a family. The wisdom contained in the chapter on commitment will be written in times when commitment is tested. Perhaps the greatest lesson in this book will be the journey to understand God’s unconditional love and that will doubtless be discovered on the day they hold their child in their arms for the first time. Their unique story will bring so much joy and fulfillment to God.

I told the couple, “Never be afraid to ask for help”;  and to all those gathered, “Never be too busy to be there for this beautiful couple.” Through the years we will stand by their side, supporting their love; supporting their promise to God and each other. We lend our collective strength to their strength and rejoice in this new love, offered in front of Heaven and Earth.

And so began the Holy Marriage Blessing for two to become one.
