The Heart of Man and Heart of God

Heart of Man movie

How do you see and feel God? Do you feel truly loved, and can you completely love others? This is the enduring plight of humankind, being stuck in a place where we struggle to experience the depth of love that we know is possible. If we are not trapped in the despair of our own brokenness, at least we can see that most of the world is.

I recently stumbled upon a movie trailer that gave me hope for many reasons. First, the movie seeks to move us beyond doctrine and into a living relationship with God. Second, the movie addresses our darkest secrets, the sins we try to hide from. Since human separation from God began in such a place, it’s only fitting that we finally see our situation from the viewpoint of our loving Heavenly Parent.

MOVIE SYNOPSIS

“The Heart of Man” is a story inviting the sons and daughters of God to leave behind our broken, moralistic and religious way of thinking and relating to God and to others. Once we begin to know who God is (and as a result who we are), we have something to invite the world into. Freedom from performance. Freedom from managing our behavior so we appear acceptable to God. Freedom from our addictions, compulsive behaviors, secrecy and double lives. This film tears the veil of confusion over the church’s current identity crisis and enables it to invite the rest of the world to the banquet God is throwing all of us.

The film features emotional interviews with real people going through their mess and subsequent healing, and includes expert witnesses of such men as William Paul Young, author of the NY Times best-selling novel “The Shack”, Dan Allender, Ph.D, author of “The Wounded Heart” and Spoken Word Artist Jackie Hill Perry. All of that is interwoven with a production-rich “prodigal son” narrative story shot in Hawaii.” – From the website: http://heartofmanmovie.com/ (watch trailer)

The film is shot in the beautiful backdrop of Hawaii and it might be worth seeing just for the scenery. It’s a documentary, and a story – the human story. I spoke to one person who saw a screening of it and said, “It is really deep, so deep I am a little reluctant to see it again!”. I understand the sentiment, but I like deep, thought provoking movies so I’m definitely going to see it.

Only One Showing – Sept. 14, 2017!

Of course, it’s not backed by big Hollywood producers, so it’s not going to be hanging around in theatres for weeks. You’ve got one chance to see it on 9/14/17, at 7 PM. It is playing on the same day and time in 600 theatres across the country.  I found 3 theatres in New Hampshire where it’s playing so you should be able to find a theatre near you. Try one of these sites for tickets:

It’s not just a movie – it’s a movement to change culture! The producers hope at least 100,000 will come out to see it because this will allow them to continue to promote it through other platforms like iTunes and Netflix. It’s a great opportunity to change the dialogue around God, sin, love and lust, and a whole lot of other touchy subjects. It’s a new opportunity to dismantle doctrine and get to the heart of the matter.
