Tales of Love and Service

Tales of Love and Service2

Today we’d like to share a podcast interview with one of Faith Fusions’ long time contributors, John W. Gehring. He has recently taken his writing to a new level with the release of his book, Tales of Love and Service: Stories from the heart.

John has worked in service, education, and sports programs in more than 60 countries for 20 years. His stories explore the lives and challenges of people in overlooked parts of the world. He hopes to inspire you on your journey to transcend the things that divide people. At the same time you may discover a new perspective about life and  friendships.

A Treasure to Share

Many stories that John shared via blog post on Faith Fusion in the past are part of this wonderful book.  However, the book has the added perspective of a grandfather telling the stories to a younger generation. This makes it very endearing, and adds a new layer of heart to be touched by.

I found myself being drawn in to the grandfather’s home through his warm and deep heart. The old man’s feelings were very relatable as he watched the world move on while he secretly wanted to share the treasures in his heart. I could also empathize with the teenager who yearned to do something great with his life, yet felt a lack of direction. I didn’t want to put the book down. At the same time I thought of so many people I wanted to share it with.

The interview below with Heather Thalheimer on the Wholehearted podcast will give you some insight into the book and the author.

Tales of Love and Service is available on Amazon in digital or paperback.

The Legacy of Love We All Wish to Leave

John’s stories offer a record of his experiences with the Religious Youth Service founded by Rev. Sun Myung Moon. But more than that, they show the profound impact that interreligious cooperation can have on individuals as well as communities. Thousands of volunteers from many countries and faith backgrounds have shared this journey, and these efforts have been quietly changing the world.

Love is the goal of all religion, but outdated traditions and dogma can cause us to lose sight of that. However, the barriers we build through concepts and labels lose power when we are faced with the serious needs of those who are suffering. Acts of selfless service are an expression of the divine love that has the ability to transform lives. John’s book is his legacy, and it will be a great teaching tool for many generations to come.
