Sustainable Future Through International Exchange

Sustainable Future Paraguay

If you have not been following the Leda Project in South America, I highly recommend going to their blog pages and following along. Here are some highlights from July 13th, which was the 10th day of the International Youth Volunteer program.

The mission of the Leda Settlement in Paraguay, South America is peace and sustainability. The method is cross cultural partnerships in the fields of agriculture, aquaculture, ranching and ecotourism. The settlement was started in 1999 by Rev. and Mrs. Moon and since then many missionaries have lived there gradually developing fish farming and cultivating the land.

Pathways to a Sustainable Future

The summer youth volunteer program at the Leda Settlement began last year. Building on the success of that program the 2nd annual Pathway to a Sustainable Future International Youth Volunteer project started on July 3rd and will end on the 19th.

Not Just Fishing!

In addition to fishing there are a lot of other activities going on such as: tree planting, painting an Elementary School, farming and caring for livestock, and general maintenance. There are also a lot of fun days involving travel, boating, educational components and of course, singing, dancing and martial arts.

Not Just For Kids

There is a Senior Eco-Service Tour beginning on July 22 to the 31st. Although it’s too late to sign up for this year, keep it in mind for next Summer. Registration begins in December and closes in April.

The project takes place in the Chaco and Pantanal region of South America.
